The Interfaith Justice Coalition is calling on all Pennsylvanians to engage in prayer on Tuesday, Feb 7 as Gov. Tom Corbett presents his 2012-2013 budget proposal to a joint session of the General Assembly.

The coalition includes the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference, Pennsylvania Council of Churches, Pennsylvania Jewish Federation, Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Pennsylvania, United Methodist Advocacy in Pennsylvania, and the Mennonite Central Committee.

The coalition believes it is important to keep the governor and all persons involved in the budget process in prayer. Each individual choice they make while building the budget is a moral decision. We believe the end product – Pennsylvania’s 2012-2013 budget – is a moral document.
As Pennsylvania continues to struggle through a difficult period of economic uncertainty, the budget process takes on an even more important role. Hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians – including children, the sick, the elderly, and individuals and families living in poverty – rely on the Commonwealth for life-sustaining support. One-in-six Pennsylvanians lives under the poverty level, according to U.S. Census data released last year.
