LAMPa is thrilled to welcome the Rev. Stacy Chavis to the Policy Council as a representative of the Lower Susquehanna Synod (LSS). As an ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament, she has served LSS congregations as Interim or called Pastor for 2 years. A native of the DC Metro area, she migrated to Lancaster County, PA to pursue seminary and her call to ministry after holding various church leadership roles. She describes her ministry as a call to share the Gospel, and to further justice, advocacy, and community as Jesus modeled. She is an anti-oppression trainer with LSS and uses eco-womanist and liberation theologies/Christologies to build community and honor all.
Reflecting on his appointment of Rev. Chavis, Bishop Stephen Herr said she “brings a variety of gifts, talents, and skills to the LAMPA Policy Council. Her deep faith and commitment to social and racial justice, reconciliation, and peacemaking will assist the Council in its ongoing advocacy ministries. Her gifts for pastoral ministry combined with the skills and experiences from her work as a corporate executive will contribute to the mission of the Council to plan, provide oversight, and build constituency relationships. Stacy’s preaching, witnessing, and attention to process will help LAMPA share Christ’s love and grace with all people.”
For more than 20 years, Chavis served in executive management positions dedicated to operational analysis and strategic development and has extensive relationship-building, stakeholder engagement, and board management experience. Her corporate training programs include forward-thinking difficulty/obstacle identification; research, analysis, and resolution; and navigating large, complex details and data sets. A proponent of lifelong learning, she holds a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies with minors in psychology and business, an MDiv with a Justice and Reconciliation concentration, and is currently studying Depth Psychology.
“We were blessed to have Rev. Chavis serve with LAMPa for part of her internship year, and know we will be blessed by the many gifts she brings to the policy council in support of this ministry. We are so happy to welcome her back,” said LAMPa Director, Tracey DePasquale.
Pastor Chavis notes that serving on the Policy Council furthers her call to “advocacy and authentic justice – for all, right now.” Fueled by Dr. King’s quote, “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever effects one directly, affects all indirectly,” she is compelled to ensure that the promises of liberty and justice are indeed available to and for all. “My liberty is bound to that of the least oppressed among us. I am not only called to serve the neighbor, but am bound to love my neighbor (everyone) as myself. Joining the Council affords me the opportunity to continue this holy work at greater depths.”
