The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking comments and input from Pennsylvanians around the Commonwealth in order to plan and implement policies that address climate pollution in our local communities.
As Lutherans, we have a duty to be responsible caretakers of God’s creation. God calls us to action in this critical kairos moment to address climate change and its impacts on all of us. This calling is set forth in the recent ELCA social message on Earth’s climate crisis.
PA DEP’s Priority Climate Action Plan is Pennsylvania’s process to gather community input and administer the Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program across the Commonwealth. CPRG is a program administered with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that became law in 2022 as part of the Inflation Reduction Act’s (IRA) investments in clean energy and climate action.
The CPRG program provides $5 billion in grants to states, local governments, tribes, and territories to develop and implement ambitious plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful air pollution, according to the EPA. CPRG support the planning and implementation phases of climate action plans. The planning phase began this fall and is expected to continue into 2027.
PA DEP is holding community engagement sessions around Pennsylvania this month and invites you and those in your network to join the session nearest you or share feedback through the Climate Strategy Opinion Survey.
