SUMMARY:Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project
DESCRIPTION:Join ELCA Witness in Society and partners in homelessness advocacy in Washington\, D.C.\, as we remember and speak up for all who are unsheltered in America by holding a vigil and art installation featuring hundreds of blankets from every state on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol. The the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project will take place on Dec. 21\, the longest night of the year. \nThe art installation will serve as a visual reminder of unsheltered neighbors during a vigil and broadcast and call to action on the state of homelessness in America.  Blankets will be arriving from each state in the country\, with letters and invitations to lawmakers to visit an agency or ministry with those experiencing homelessness in their district. If you would like to help — by making a blanket\, writing a letter\, stitching donated squares\, setting up and tearing down the art installation or delivering blankets to members of Congress in January for delivery in their districts — please drop us a note here with “Blanket” in the subject line. \n Read news coverage of the 2021 Pennsylvania vigil with Lower Susquehanna Synod Lutherans and other advocates that inspired this year’s event. \n

Join us for a special case study into the partnership between Just Mediation Pittsburgh and the Allegheny County Housing Authority as they work to resolve resident crisis before it leads to an eviction filing. \nMediation is an ideal intervention for landlord tenant disputes. Mediation allows for both sides to come to the table\, gives space to identify the root of the conflict\, and provides equal agency to landlord and tenant to find a solution that works for both. This is critically important for housing authorities who can be some of the largest landlords in town working with the most vulnerable tenants. \nWe will discuss: \n\nthe mechanics of the partnership;\nthe value of the service to both the residents and the Housing Authority; and\nthe role other community partners play to ensure this partnership lasts for years to come.\n\nSpeakers: \n\nAaron Erb | Executive Director | Just Mediation Pittsburgh\nRich Stephenson | Chief Financial Officer | Allegheny County Housing Authority\nAbby Rae LaCombe | Executive Director | RentHelpPGH\nAdam DiBuo | Managing Attorney | Neighborhood Legal Services\n\nRegistration will close at 2:00PM – 1 hour prior to the webinar start time \nYou will receive the link and call in information from the Housing Alliance 1 hour prior to the webinar \n**Pricing** \nFree for Members \n$25 for Non-Members \nEmail info@housingalliancepa.org to verify your membership \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen: \nSeptember 8\, 2022 \n3:00PM-4:00PM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere: \nClick Here to Register \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHousing Alliance Resources \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPromising Practices: Landlord – Tenant Mediation \nEviction Prevention  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nwww.housingalliancepa.org

SUMMARY:Beginning of the "Season of Creation"
DESCRIPTION:From Season of Creation’s “Invitation to Join Season of Creation 2022.” \nThe Season of Creation is the annual Christian celebration to listen and respond together to the cry of Creation: the ecumenical family around the world unites to pray and protect our common home\, the Oikos of God. The Season “Celebration” begins 1 September\, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation\, and ends 4 October\, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi\, the patron saint of ecology beloved by many Christian denominations. Following the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity\, we begin the Season of Creation “Preparation” to reach local leaders and call our communities to participate actively by raising awareness of the theme\, and how to respond to the cry of creation where the Lord calls us in our diverse contexts. \n2022 Theme \nThis year we will unite around the theme\, “Listen to the Voice of Creation.” During the COVID-19 pandemic\, many have become familiar with the concept of being muted in conversations. Many voices are muted in public discourse around climate change and the ethics of Earth-keeping. These are voices of those who suffer the impacts of climate change. These are voices of people who hold generational wisdom about how to live gratefully within the limits of the land. These are voices of a diminishing diversity of more-than-human species. It is the voice of the Earth. The 2022 Season of Creation theme raises awareness of our need to listen to the voice of creation. \nThe Psalmist declares\, “The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims God’s handiwork. Day to day pours forth speech\, and night to night declares knowledge their voice is not heard; yet their voice goes out through all the Earth\, and their words to the end of the world.” (19: 1-4) Creation never ceases to proclaim\, but do we listen? During the Season of Creation\, our common prayer and action can help us listen for the voices of those who are silenced. In prayer we lament the individuals\, communities\, species\, and ecosystems who are lost\, and those whose livelihoods are threatened by habitat loss and climate change. In prayer we center the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor. \nListening to the voice of creation offers members of the Christian family a rich entry point for interfaith and interdisciplinary dialogue and practice. By listening to the voice of all creation\, humans from all cultures and sectors of life can be joined in our vocation to care for our common home (oikos). May this 2022 Season of Creation renew our ecumenical unity! And may this season of prayer and action be a time to Listen to the Voice of Creation\, so that our lives in words and deeds proclaim good news for all the Earth!
