SUMMARY:Lutherans Restoring Creation - August Connections Call
DESCRIPTION:Does it feel like “there are too many things to care about” right now? \nThose with power try to divide and conquer\, making us fight for time\, attention and resources for “our” social justice issue against “other” social justice issues. But it’s a made up fight. We get stronger together! \nThis call will integrate a Lutherans Restoring Creation “Connection Call” with ELCA World Hunger leaders\, some of whom are gathering soon to revitalize their efforts to “do justice\, love kindness\, and [move] humbly with our God.” (Micah 6:8) We’ll meet people who work for justice across multiple sectors and manifestations: migrant\, economic\, racial\, gender or environmental (MERGE). We’ll ask each other what we’re seeing in our communities and how we can work together for a world aligned with God’s just\, kind vision. \nREGISTER HERE!

SUMMARY:LDR and ELCA World Hunger Intersections: Navajo Lutheran Mission
DESCRIPTION:1 hour | Online via Zoom \nSpecial Guest: Solveig Muus\, Grand Canyon Synod Hunger Leader and Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Arizona \nJoin special guest Solveig Muus as she shares the story behind the 40-40-40 Region 2 Lenten Challenge\, and how the Challenge\, now in its third year\, connects hundreds of individuals in congregations across the 5 synods in Region 2 with each other\, as well as with the work of ELCA World Hunger and Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR). The Lenten Challenge for 2025 supports LDR and our church’s call to respond to non-conventional disasters\, including the work at Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission (NELM). NELM is a 70-year-old ministry of the ELCA in Rock Point\, Arizona\, where more than half the households either do not have running water or do not have access to safe drinking water. In addition to various spiritual practices\, each year’s Challenge includes an opportunity for giving; gifts generated through this year’s challenge support LDR projects such as providing holding tanks and an automated water distribution system for filtration and chlorination for our siblings in Christ on the Navajo reservation. \nRegister through LDR’s online portal.

SUMMARY:Our Kairos Moment: The Future of Farming
DESCRIPTION:In June 2024\, the ELCA released “Our Kairos Moment: A Study Guide on Earth’s Climate Crisis.” Over the next four months\, Lutherans Restoring Creation will facilitate a study group on this guide during our connections call time\, each hour focusing on one part (of four) of the study guide. We hope that by going through the guide ourselves\, that participants will gain familiarity and confidence with the study guide and will be able to implement it in their own congregations and communities. \nDuring Part Three\, our theme is “The Future of Farming.” We will think about our connection to our food and how sustainability can be a guiding principle in our food and agriculture. We will address how climate change manifests generationally\, with fewer and older farmers\, but also climate anxiety in younger generations. \nRegister here!

SUMMARY:School Breakfast 101: Implementing Innovative Breakfast Models Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Join the Food Resource & Action Center (FRAC) for their webinar “School Breakfast 101: Implementing Innovative Breakfast Models.” \nThe webinar will take place Thursday\, March 7\, at 3:00 p.m. \nThe School Breakfast program supports student health and learning and improves school attendance; however\, traditional breakfast models\, where breakfast is served before the start of the school day\, hinder participation. Innovative breakfast models\, such as Breakfast After the Bell\, are effective ways to boost participation and ensure children start their day ready to learn. \nYou can join the FRAC this National School Breakfast Week to learn how schools are supporting student success through innovative breakfast models. \nThe FRAC improves the nutrition\, health\, and well-being of people struggling against poverty-related hunger in the United States through advocacy\, partnerships\, and by advancing bold and equitable policy solutions. \nLAMPa has been active in advocating for school breakfast for years. Reach out to us at lampa@lutheranadvocacy.org to share about your hunger ministries and advocacy for school breakfast. \nYou can register for the FRAC webinar here.
