CHRISTIANITY IN AMERICA: SACRED OR SUPREMACIST?—OCTOBER 6\, HARRISBURG \nThe Pennsylvania Council of Churches is beginning a dialogue on Christian Nationalism\, a topic of rising interest in a critical election year where individual candidates describe themselves as members of this movement. The Council of Churches will present a forum titled “Christianity in America: Sacred or Supremacist?” The program will be held on October 6\, 2022\, at Colonial Park United Church of Christ\, 5000 Devonshire Road\, in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. Registration for in-person attendance is required–scroll down for payment information. \nThe keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Robert P. Jones. Dr. Jones is the President and founder of Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) and the author of White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity\, which won a 2021 American Book Award. He is also the author of The End of White Christian America\, which won the 2019 Grawemeyer Award in Religion. Jones writes regularly on politics\, culture\, and religion for The Atlantic online\, NBC Think\, and other outlets. He is frequently featured in major national media\, such as CNN\, MSNBC\, NPR\, The New York Times\, The Washington Post\, and others. Jones writes weekly at https://robertpjones.substack.com\, a newsletter for those dedicated to the work of truth-telling\, repair\, and healing from the legacy of white supremacy in American Christianity. He holds a Ph.D. in religion from Emory University and a M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Read his full bio. \nDr. Jones’ presentation will be followed by a panel discussion which\, in addition to him\, includes: (1) Marilyn Mayo\, Senior Research Fellow\, Center on Extremism\, Anti-Defamation League\, addressing anti-Semitism in the movement; (2) Rev. Dr. Gregory Edwards\, Founder and Senior Pastor\, Resurrected Life Community Church\, United Church of Christ\, Allentown\, addressing racism and white supremacy; and (3) Rev. Jennifer Butler\, Founder in Residence\, Faith in Public Life\, addressing a scriptural response to the movement. It is anticipated that the panel will also feature a journalist who will speak to how the media covers Christian Nationalism. Dr. Greg Carey of Lancaster Theological Seminary will moderate. \nWe also plan to livestream the program via YouTube Live inclusive of remote sites for groups to participate throughout the state. The anticipated schedule is as follows: \n11:30 am         Lunch gathering with Dr. Jones or those who wish to join.
