DESCRIPTION:1 hour | Online via Zoom \nSpecial Guest: Solveig Muus\, Grand Canyon Synod Hunger Leader and Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Arizona \nJoin special guest Solveig Muus as she shares the story behind the 40-40-40 Region 2 Lenten Challenge\, and how the Challenge\, now in its third year\, connects hundreds of individuals in congregations across the 5 synods in Region 2 with each other\, as well as with the work of ELCA World Hunger and Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR). The Lenten Challenge for 2025 supports LDR and our church’s call to respond to non-conventional disasters\, including the work at Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission (NELM). NELM is a 70-year-old ministry of the ELCA in Rock Point\, Arizona\, where more than half the households either do not have running water or do not have access to safe drinking water. In addition to various spiritual practices\, each year’s Challenge includes an opportunity for giving; gifts generated through this year’s challenge support LDR projects such as providing holding tanks and an automated water distribution system for filtration and chlorination for our siblings in Christ on the Navajo reservation. \nRegister through LDR’s online portal.

We hope that by going through the guide ourselves\, that participants will gain familiarity and confidence with the study guide and will be able to implement it in their own congregations and communities. \nDuring Part Four\, our theme is “Active Hope and Agents of Change.” We will explore our relationship to our home (locally as well as planet earth!) and how to address climate change intersectionally. DESCRIPTION:Join PA IPL for a series that invites you to wander through Pennsylvania’s watersheds – their problems\, their people\, and how we can protect them. We’ll hear from experts at each session including grassroots leaders and organizers\, academics\, riverkeepers\, protection agencies\, and congregations. Together\, let’s get inspired to practice faith-based stewardship of the waters that flow through the Keystone state! \n“What’s a watershed?” you might ask. Watersheds are “areas or ridges of land that separate waters flowing to different rivers\, basins\, or seas”. We have six of them here in Pennsylvania\, and everybody lives in one! This seminar series is designed to be an introduction to watersheds so don’t be intimidated if you don’t know much (yet!)\, but people with watershed literacy are also welcome and encouraged to join! There will be interactive pieces of the seminar series and the more cross-learning we can share with each other\, the better. \nIn conjunction with the seminar series\, we are launching our inaugural Watershed Circle. The program is designed as a supportive cohort for leaders seeking to explore watershed project opportunities on congregation and community land. This 6 month program will begin in January 2025 and is facilitated by the PA IPL team with support from watershed experts! DESCRIPTION:Join PA IPL for a series that invites you to wander through Pennsylvania’s watersheds – their problems\, their people\, and how we can protect them. We’ll hear from experts at each session including grassroots leaders and organizers\, academics\, riverkeepers\, protection agencies\, and congregations. Together\, let’s get inspired to practice faith-based stewardship of the waters that flow through the Keystone state! \n“What’s a watershed?” you might ask. Watersheds are “areas or ridges of land that separate waters flowing to different rivers\, basins\, or seas”. We have six of them here in Pennsylvania\, and everybody lives in one! This seminar series is designed to be an introduction to watersheds so don’t be intimidated if you don’t know much (yet!)\, but people with watershed literacy are also welcome and encouraged to join! There will be interactive pieces of the seminar series and the more cross-learning we can share with each other\, the better. \nIn conjunction with the seminar series\, we are launching our inaugural Watershed Circle. The program is designed as a supportive cohort for leaders seeking to explore watershed project opportunities on congregation and community land. This 6 month program will begin in January 2025 and is facilitated by the PA IPL team with support from watershed experts! Our first cohort is limited to just 15 congregations/community groups so we encourage you to begin planning and preparing now! DESCRIPTION:Want to learn more about redistricting reform\, the legislative process\, and the next strategic moves towards a more responsive state government? Join LAMPa’s partner\, Fair Districts PA\, at the Penn Harris Hotel in Camp Hill on December 7 for a day of strategic planning\, training sessions\, and discussions about reshaping Pennsylvania’s gerrymandered districts. \nFair Districts PA is proud to welcome the following confirmed speakers: \n\nKatie Fahey is founder and Executive Director of Voters Not Politicians\, the grassroots\, nonpartisan campaign that ran a successful effort to end gerrymandering in Michigan by amending the State Constitution in 2018 with 61% of the vote. She is now Executive Director of The People\, a nonprofit organization committed to sharing the lessons learned in Michigan.\nSimone Leeper serves as legal counsel for Campaign Legal Center’s redistricting team. She litigates a wide range of redistricting-related cases\, challenging gerrymandering and advocating for election systems that guarantee all voters an equal opportunity to influence our democracy.\nBrianna Remster is associate professor of sociology and criminology at Villanova University. She has done extensive research on prison gerrymandering in Pennsylvania and gave testimony on the issue to the 2021-2022 Legislative Reapportionment Commission. SUMMARY:Discipleship in a Democracy: How faith communities can work for justice and peace without jeopardizing their nonprofit status -- even during an election year!
DESCRIPTION:Though public charities\, including churches\, must remain nonpartisan\, they have a critical role to play in civic life — even throughout the election cycle! Not only can public charities engage in issue education and advocacy during election season\, but they can also conduct robust voter and candidate education campaigns and mobilize the public to get out the vote. After this session\, you will have a better understanding of how to legally engage in nonpartisan advocacy during an election without jeopardizing your nonprofit status.  The information will cover federal\, state and municipal compliance.  LAMPa is hosting this webinar in collaboration with Bolder Advocacy\, a project of the Alliance for Justice\, and Attorney Steve Masters of JustLaws\, a Philadelphia-based law firm.  This 1 1/2-hour webinar will also include time for Q&A. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nHow you can continue to educate and advocate on important issues during election years;\nHow you can educate the public through candidate forums and questionnaires;\nHow you can respond to candidate statements objectively;\nHow you can conduct nonpartisan voter registration and ensure get-out-the-vote efforts are conducted legally;\nHow you can safely support or oppose ballot measures without being partisan; and\nHow staff and volunteers’ partisan activities in their personal time can be kept separate from their activities on behalf of the organization.\n\n$25 registration fee gets you a personal link to the webinar and recording of the main presentation.
