Disasters come to us in many forms…. natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, wildfires…industrial accidents…or biological disaster such as the Covid 19 pandemic… and some sadly are human-caused such as a mass shooting or bombing… However, it comes, being present and providing emotional spiritual care in a time of disaster is critical. It’s what we are called to do as church, as children of a loving God called to bear that love out into the world for the sake of our neighbor.
This webinar focuses on how to render psychological first aid and provide emotional spiritual care in a disaster. We will identify the emotional responses associated with the experience of disaster; we will look at how grief and loss impact the emotional response; we will learn about the phases of disaster, the systems that come into being, the activities and partners that resource a disaster response … and finally, we will learn about rendering psychological first aid in the aftermath of a disaster.
This is the first of a four part series of webinars designed to provide a basic overview of emotional spiritual care in a disaster. Hope you join us!
