March 22-24 Trinity Institute on Water Justice
Mar 22, 2017 - Mar 24, 2017
Water is a gift. Water is life. As water crises increase, access to safe and clean drinking water decreases.
Be part of Trinity Institute 2017: Water Justice, a global conference held in New York City and webcast all over the world. With a sharp focus on the need for water justice initiatives in areas of access, droughts, pollution, rising tides, and flooding, Trinity Institute aims to offer actionable guidance for individuals, congregations, and the larger faith community surrounding these issues. This year we’ll hear from Jeffrey Sachs, Christiana Peppard,Winston Halapua, Thabo Makgoba, Katharine Hayhoe, Maude Barlow, and others.
LAMPa is encouraging Lutherans in every synod to host a partner site as an excellent way to promote faithful discussion and action.
Water Justice: Trinity Institute 2017 provides a timely opportunity for people of faith to grow together in understanding the relationship between water justice and climate change. From Flint, Michigan, to Standing Rock, North Dakota, from the waterways of Pennsylvania to rising sea levels in the Marshall Islands, this gathering will help us better understand how we can respond to our call to care for God’s sacred gift of water. The Lower Susquehanna Synod, LAMPa, Gettysburg Seminary, and the Episcopal Diocese of Central PA are again collaborating to make the Trinity Institute available to a wider audience as a partner site. “We are working together to model what it means to be the Body of Christ,” said Lower Susquehanna Synod Bishop Jim Dunlop. “We invite you to join us or register to be a partner site in your part of the Commonwealth. Together we are stronger. Together we can do more in the name of Christ to be stewards of God’s good gifts.”
Learn more about becoming a partner site here. LAMPa can provide local, state and federal water justice advocacy opportunities in conjunction with your event, and may be able to help with the cost of hosting. Contact us for more information. Watch for registration information for the event in Lower Susquehanna Synod in January.
Trinity Institute’s annual conference is in its 46th year and equips clergy and laypeople for imaginative and catalytic leadership. Each year, Trinity Institute presents emerging and inclusive theological and social perspectives and engages participants in inquiry, dialogue, and reflection.
The conference is sponsored by Trinity Church Wall Street, an Episcopal parish in Lower Manhattan. Recent Trinity Institutes have addressed racial justice (2016) and economic inequality (2015).
Participants from all faith perspectives are welcomed to attend in NYC, find a partner site near you, or host as a Partner Site. Anyone is welcome to download the free custom Study Guide for Lent 2017 when it becomes available.
Pay the full price of $500 (the cost to provide Trinity Institute 2017) or a discounted rate of either $300 or $100—whichever rate you can afford. All fees grant complete conference access.
