Hunger J.A.M. (Justice and Mercy)
On June 3, the Lower Susquehanna Synod is packing 400,000 nutritionally complete meals that will help feed hungry Pennsylvanians. LAMPa will be there to teach about the root causes of hunger and how we can help advocate to address the systemic issues underlying the many needs our ministries are attempting to meet. Learn more.
“The assembly will remind us that you don’t have to go far to find people who are hungry for food, for hope, for mercy, and for justice,” Bishop James Dunlop wrote in a letter to congregations. “One in seven Pennsylvanians struggles with having enough food. In our synod, approximately one in five children under age 18, more than 121,000 souls, encounter hunger. These alarming statistics should be unacceptable to us as people of faith. Scripture is clear about our responsibility to God and to our neighbor. Through HUNGER J.A.M.* 2016 we can take one day and together make a real difference. Even more importantly, the day provides opportunity and incentive to learn how to take the next step—into advocacy and mission—to equip us to tackle deep, systemic issues that keep people in bondage to poverty, hunger, and injustice in this land of plenty.”
