Mar 18, 2020 - Mar 19, 2020
The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) is co-hosting two webinars to share the latest information about Covid-19 responses with school districts and program providers. Please share this learning opportunity with your networks. Register for this week’s webinars by clicking on the respective links.
Webinar: Serving Students School Meals During COVID-19 (Wednesday, 3/18, 2pm ET)
Join SNA, USDA, and FRAC for the latest updates on guidelines for serving students school meals when schools are closed or dismissed. School nutrition operators will also provide practical ideas for how to provide meals to students in partnership with their communities, state agencies, and other partners.
Webinar: Serving Meals During COVID-19: Out-of-School Time Partners (Thursday, 3/19, 2 pm ET)
Out-of-school time program providers and non-school meal sponsors can work collaboratively with districts to ensure access to meals when schools are closed or dismissed. Join this webinar to hear the latest updates on guidelines and opportunities for providing meals during COVID-19 for out-of-school time programs.
As of March 15, 33 states have decided to close public schools. Combined with district closures in other states, at least 64,000 U.S. schools are closed or scheduled to close, affecting at least 32.5 million public school students and counting.
FRAC is working with anti-hunger advocates, school nutrition professionals, and other partners to ensure students have access to nutritious meals during school closures at the federal, state, and local levels. As of this morning (March 16), USDA-FNS has approved waivers for all states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, to serve meals in non-congregate settings.
To learn more about additional waivers that your state can request to increase access, model meal programs during school closures and more, see FRAC’s new resource: Ensuring Access to the Child Nutrition Programs in the Event of School Closures.
It is important to note that the situation is fluid. FRAC will continue to provide up-to-date information. For additional information on efforts and opportunities to ensure children have access to nutritious meals during COVID-19 school closures, visit FRAC’s website.
