October 17 – A Celebration of Local Advocacy

Oct 17, 2015 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Do you know someone who is passionate about helping other people?
Have you observed faithful commitment in someone who has started a new program or ministry?
Has someone in your congregation done exceptional work while serving others? While working for justice and peace like our baptismal calling bids us to do?
Nominate someone to receive some recognition and our thanks for their good work on behalf of others. (See the other side of this flyer for details on how to nominate someone)
You are welcome to attend the dinner to help support the work of LAMPA even if you do not nominate anyone for the Recognition Award. Our goal is to gather 15 local advocates and 75 people.
Nominate them to receive a LAMPA Recognition Award at this first ever area dinner. 1. Take their picture and describe their work (in 150-200 words) from your perspective. 2. Invite them (and their family) to come to this dinner. 3. Pay for their meal if you can. 4. Try and keep it a secret if you want to. 5. During dinner, we will be inviting them to speak from their heart about their project/issue.
What is LAMPA? LAMPA is the oldest statewide advocacy office in the United States. This office (which represents all 7 Pennsylvania Lutheran synods and its organizations) has advocated for the needs of the poor, the hungry, care for creation, senior adults, and the homeless for more than 30 years now.
Pastor Amy Reumann, Director of the Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Pennsylvania (visit www.lutheranadvocacypa.org to find out more) will be the Master of Ceremonies at our dinner. The meal ($10 per person) is a fundraiser for the work of LAMPA as our synod recently cut some of its funding to LAMPA. The people of Zion are providing the meal for this event. (Note also that Pastor Amy Reumann will preach at Zion’s at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship on Sunday morning, October 18, leading an adult/youth Sunday School class.

Please forward your nomination and your reservations to Pastor Bruce Osterhout, Synod LAMPA Policy Committee representative. You may reach him at pastorbruce@zionslutheran.org or by cell phone 610-914-2795. The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, October 14. Each person attending the celebration will receive descriptions each nominee’s ministry.
