A Prayer for Election Day — The Rev. Matthew Best
Prayer for Election Day – The words of the old hymn call: “Oh God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come…”
Election Day is upon us, O Lord. Too often, we put our hope in election results, political parties, and candidates, rather than you. Regardless of the outcome of this election, gracious God, we pray that your will be done. We pray for all candidates for office. We thank you for their willingness to serve their neighbors. We pray that those elected may be given the wisdom to lead with integrity and the heart to care for the greater good. We pray for election workers – that Election Day may go smoothly and that they may be a non-anxious presence for voters. We pray for the voters of this Commonwealth as they make important decisions about who will represent them and lead them in the coming years. May they choose leaders who exemplify what it means to love one’s neighbor. We ask all this in Christ’s name. Amen.
The Rev. Matthew Best is chair of LAMPa’s Policy Council.
